Consent Check-in Script

Before, during, and after — rolling consent

TherapistAssist logo

Consent is not a one-time gate; it's a rolling conversation. This is a script frame for before, during, and after — small phrases that make check-ins normal instead of a mood-killer.

Before — one of these, out loud
  • "What are you up for tonight?"
  • "Anything off the menu?"
  • "Same as last time, or want something different?"
  • "I'm a maybe — can we start slow and I'll tell you?"
A phrase in your own voice
During — permission and check-in
  • "More of that?"
  • "Slower / firmer / lighter?"
  • "Can I…?"
  • "How is this landing?"
  • A word or gesture that means pause
Our pause word
After — repair and closeness
  • "What was your favorite part?"
  • "Anything you'd want different next time?"
  • "How are you feeling right now?"

A pause is not a rejection

Naming a pause word protects both partners — the person pausing, and the person who never has to guess.
