Sleep Medication Taper Support Worksheet
CBT-I supports through the corridor

Long-term sleep aids often become part of the problem — the sleep gets worse without them and no better with them. Tapering must happen with the prescriber; this sheet supports the behavioral side.
My taper plan (from prescriber)
Medication, current dose, target, timeline
CBT-I supports in place during taper
- Sleep diary through the whole taper
- Stimulus control rules
- Fixed wake time
- Wind-down routine
- Cognitive work on catastrophic beliefs about the taper
Rebound insomnia — what to expect
The first 1–2 weeks are usually worse. That's the medication leaving — not your baseline. Do not adjust the taper on the first bad night.
Taper is a phase, not a life
Rebound insomnia is temporary. Real, drug-free sleep on the other side is worth the corridor.
