Eating Disorder Relapse Prevention Plan

Yellow lights, non-negotiables, support team, slip script

TherapistAssist logo

Eating disorder recovery isn't linear, and slips are not the same as relapse. A written plan, made when you're well, is the most reliable ally when you're not.

What recovery looks like for me

Eating patterns, body relationship, freedom, energy, what I get back. Specific, not abstract.

What relapse cost me last time

Early warning signs — the yellow lights

Skipping meals, body checking returning, weighing again, recipe scrolling, restriction language, exercise creep, isolation, "I've got this without my team."

High-risk situations

Travel, stress peaks, family-of-origin visits, breakups, illness, diet talk, summer / swimsuit season, postpartum, anniversaries.

My non-negotiables (recovery floor)

The things I keep doing even when I don't want to. Example: three meals a day, no scale, weekly therapy, no body comments at mealtimes, no calorie apps.

My support team — who, for what

If I have a slip — the script

One slip is data, not a verdict. Eat the next meal on time, tell one person, get to the next appointment. Do not compensate.

Crisis trigger — when I will call my team / a crisis line without negotiating with myself
