CBT-E Mood Intolerance Module
The emotion → ED behavior loop — and a replacement repertoire that isn't a symptom

Mood intolerance — the felt sense that certain emotions must be gotten rid of immediately — drives binge, purge, restriction, and exercise as emotion-regulators. CBT-E's mood module maps the emotion → behavior loop and builds a response repertoire that isn't a symptom.
The emotions I can't stay with
- Anger
- Anxiety / dread
- Sadness
- Loneliness / emptiness
- Shame
- Boredom
- Excitement / joy (yes, positive too)

What the behavior did to the emotion
Building tolerance — the replacement moves
- Name it out loud — 'this is anxiety, not urgency'
- TIPP (cold water, paced breathing, muscle) — for peak intensity
- Ride the wave — 20 minutes, no fixing
- Move gently (walk, stretch) — not exercise-as-compensation
- Reach out to a person, not the behavior
- Do something that requires your hands (art, cooking, an instrument)

The move I'll practice this week
You can feel it and not act on it
Every ridden wave — even a small one — teaches the nervous system that emotion is survivable without symptom. This is the piece that makes the ED behaviors optional.
