Chewing/Spitting & Rumination Tracker

The behaviors clients rarely bring up unasked

TherapistAssist logo

Chewing-and-spitting and rumination (regurgitating and re-swallowing or re-spitting food) are under-disclosed ED behaviors that carry real dental, electrolyte, and nutritional cost. Clients rarely bring them up unasked. This tracker gives permission to name them and starts a delay plan.

Medical review is part of treatment

Rumination in particular can cause esophageal damage and electrolyte disturbance, and chewing/spitting can drive parotid gland enlargement and severe enamel loss. Loop the medical provider in — this is not a purely psychological behavior.
