Sitting with the urge
The whole point of this practice is to feel the discomfort and NOT do the ritual or check. The urge will rise, peak, and fall — every time. Your job is to let it.
Why this helps
Compulsions teach the brain that the alarm is real. Not doing them — and not arguing with the thought either — teaches it the opposite. Every rep where you let the wave move through is the medicine.
What set this off?
What is the compulsion pulling you to do?
Get a baseline.
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Don't do the ritual. Don't seek reassurance. Don't argue with the thought — just notice it like a passing siren.
For example: It's OK to feel anxious. The feeling is not a fact. Waves always come down.
Check in twice.
Each rep teaches your brain that the alarm isn't an emergency.
