Make Peace With Food

Unconditional permission, one food at a time

TherapistAssist logo

Intuitive Eating Principle 3: make peace with food. Forbidden foods are not powerful because of the food — they're powerful because of the rule. Unconditional permission, paired with attunement to satisfaction and fullness, dismantles the binge/restrict cycle from the inside.

My current "off-limits" or "scary" foods

Foods I won't keep in the house, foods I only eat in secret, foods I eat to excess once I start.

Food permission ladder

Pick one food. The ladder is about repetition, not nerve.

1.Buy the food and keep it in the house.
2.Eat it sitting down, plated, fully present, not while doing anything else.
3.Eat it when I'm comfortably hungry — not stuffed, not starving.
4.Notice the satisfaction factor — taste, texture, smell, temperature.
5.Pause halfway through and check fullness.
6.Repeat until the food is boring.
